Woodcraft Rangers Makes Fast Company’s Sixth Annual List of the Best Workplaces for Innovators in Large Companies: 1000+ Employees

Motorola wins the category, but Woodcraft Rangers is one of only 16 companies across the US and Canada and the only nonprofit to be recognized.

LOS ANGELESSept. 18, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Fast Company announced its sixth annual Best Workplaces for Innovators list, recognizing organizations that foster innovation at all levels. Woodcraft Rangers is a finalist in the Large Companies: 1,000+ Employees category for its groundbreaking initiatives that have redefined how nonprofit organizations invest in staff and cultivate innovation from within, creating a lasting impact on staff, students, and the broader community.

Innovation through Internal Investments. Recognizing the need for sustained professional growth, Woodcraft Rangers launched the Lifecraft program in 2021, providing internal staff with free college and career advising. This initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Barbara Ige, Director of Strategic Growth and Mentorship, to support the economic mobility and professional development of staff, many of whom are alumni. Since its launch, Lifecraft has helped over 200 staff members with personalized action plans, guiding them toward further academic and career milestones. The program resulted in staff re-enrolling in higher education, earning admission into law school and PhD programs, securing internal promotions, and a national fellowship with the National Afterschool Association.

Woodcraft Rangers has also made significant investments in proactive staffing strategies and leadership development. New roles, such as Trauma-Informed Care Associate and Director of Inclusion, have strengthened the organization’s infrastructure, fostering a culture of well-being and inclusion. Additionally, staff leadership academies and apprenticeship programs address emerging needs and equip staff with the skills to thrive both within and beyond the organization.
